Building Shelters for Outdoor Cats

Saturday, January 12, 2019
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Forest Hills Library*
108-19 71st Avenue, Queens, NY 11375
Note: Please do not bring animals to the workshop (with the exception of service animals).

Learn the materials, tools, and skills needed to build warm, waterproof shelters to protect feral and stray community cats from cold winter temperatures and precipitation. We will demonstrate how to build two styles of outdoor winter shelters. You will also learn general information about the cat shelters that are available for purchase locally, as well as the merits of the many pre-fab shelters available for purchase online.

The presentation will include demonstrations of how to build:

1) A low-tech style of shelter requiring no special skills
2) A second style of shelter requiring minimal prowess using basic tools

Some hands-on training will be available at this workshop as a teaching aid only. Detailed instructions for future shelter construction will be provided to all attendees. Attendees will not leave the workshop with a shelter in-hand, and no shelters will be sold at the lecture, but examples of available styles will be on display.

Host: NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals

Instructor: Kathleen O'Malley, NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals
